Once again I am requesting any information on our 55th reunion.  I need to plan my summer and schedule several difficult task which cannot be delayed until the last minute...  I don't want to miss the reunion but events will soon preclude attendance if a proposed date is not determined.  My previous post is below.

With our 55th reunion year coming upon us...  those of us living away from Raleigh are wondering if any plans have been discussed as to a date or range of dates?  Travel is much easier to set up in advance and schedules are less impacted with advanced knowledge.  I know those of you living in the Raleigh area get tasked with doing the prep work and for that we are most greatful.  Please let us know of any discussions, tentative plans, or directions being talked.  I would hope for a June time frame but am open to any proposals.  Several of us have been questioning the timing of the celebration.  Again thanks in advance for the efforts that will be required to make this happen.  Tony

There is an old Cherokee proverb that says, "Do not let yesterday use up too much of today".

I was a teen-ager back then.   Fifty-five years later and now I'm an antique teen-ager and still remember the best of days back then but never giving up and looking forward to more of best days yet to come.

Congrats to Robert Bashford, Tarheel of the Week, in the Sunday 18 February N&O.  Well deserved, and thanks for hanging around Raleigh!  Hard to get rid of us natives!

A favor, please.  I have a relative in Raleigh that is looking for a medium price assisted living retirement facility.  She would like something like a studio apartment.  Obviously,  a clean,  well-run facility is a must.  Any suggestions would be gratefully accepted.  There is a bit of time element involved here,  as well.

Hello.  i am writing this to let you know that Stella Memory Crutchfield is now receiving residential nursing care at the White Stone center in Greensboro.  She has a chronic condition, so this is a long-term arrangement.  If you would like to send her a card, please mail it to her home at 7826 Alcorn Road, Oak Ridge, NC 27310.  I know she would appreciate hearing from you.

Dear friends,

This weekend my husband, Bob, and I drove from Nashville, Tennessee, to Greensboro to see Stella.  Her husband, David, has taped your cards up in her room.  We went through all of them together, and she remembers each of you warmly.  Your generosity and thoughtfulness mean so much!

Stella has been accepted for hospice.

My heart is broken, of course.  This has all happened very quckly, and I cannot take it all in.

So many good memories of Broughton and Stella.  Stella playing the bells in the "Marching 100,"  Stella playing the bass fiddle in the Broughton Orchestra.  Friday night dinners at an Italian restaurant the name of which I have forgotten.  MYF at Hayes Barton Methodist Church.  Applying for college.   Working on the annual.  Those were great times.

Please keep us in your prayers.

Many thanks to those of you who have sent cards to Stella.  One of the pleasant things we do when I am with her is to go through the cards and chat about those of you who sent them.  Stella remembers all of you and  smiles when I read your names.

Stella has a quiet life now.  Her husband, who is a dear man, visits her each day.  He pushes her wheelchair around the facility so that she can see some different scenery, and on nice days they sit outside on the porch.  He reads to her, and they listen to music in her room.  The music is usually music from our high school days.  When I was there last weekend, they were listening to the New Christy Minstrels.

The nurses at the facility all comment on Stella's sweet smile.  She hasn't lost that.  She remains a beautiful woman.

Thanks again for all you have done to lift our spirits.  Please keep remembering us in your prayers.

Susie

The Rand-Bryan House gathering yesterday was the HIGHLIGHT for me of the 55th class reunion. THANK YOU both, Martha BRYAN and Robert LILES, for letting me sit on your porch and having a VISIT with members of Broughton's Class of 1963. The weather WAS perfect, the FOOD was all GREAT eating, and the surroundings SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL!!!
