Mary Gladys Capps, 70, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday morning, October 2, 2015. She was born, November 5, 1944 in Wake County to the late Shelton and Lois Dewar and the sister of the late Benton Dewar.

Mary graduated from Broughton High School in 1963 and Peace College in 1965. She had a long and distinguished career of service with the State of North Carolina, where she served with the Department of Instruction from 1965-1973 and the NC General Assembly from 1974-2010. She enjoyed the changing of the seasons along with the holidays. Her favorite holiday was Christmas, as she loved to decorate and was known for her ability to place lights and ornaments on Christmas trees. Mary attended Hilltop Baptist Church in Fuquay-Varina. Mary showed a loving and caring spirit to everyone she met. She loved her children and grandchildren as well as her Chinese Pugs, Missy, Nicholas, Murphy and Butler. She will be missed by those she leaves behind.

Surviving are her devoted husband A.C. (Cravon) Capps of Garner; daughter, Carson Capps and fiancée, Aaron Atwood; son, Michael Capps and wife Gretchen of Chapel Hill; grandchildren, Mckenzie, Harrison and Parker Capps all of Chapel Hill; sister, Nancy Moody of Garner; niece and nephew, Melissa Goodwin and William Moody; extended family and friends.

A funeral service will be held 11 am Monday, October 5, 2015 at Montlawn Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5-8 pm Sunday, October 4, 2015 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Mary to Hilltop Baptist Church, 10212 Fayetteville Road, Fuquay-Varina, NC 27526.
