Jerry was born in Seattle, Washington to Geraldine Young Joyner and James Bryant Joyner on March 29, 1945. When he was one year old Jerry’s family moved to Raleigh, NC where Jerry lived until graduating from Needham Broughton High School in 1963.
He attended college at the University of Maryland where he received a BS in Accounting. After living in Maryland, Jerry returned to Raleigh. He also lived in Hopkinton, MA, Boynton Beach, FL, and Sarasota, FL for a short time.
Jerry is predeceased by his parents and is survived by one son, David Bryant Joyner (Norma), two granddaughters, Alexandria and Sophia, of Raleigh; brother Robert Dale (Betsy) and nephew Patrick of Haw River, NC; niece, Amy Buchanan (Bruce) and great nephew Jackson of Greensboro, NC; nephew Ryan (Koni) and great niece Katrina of Springdale, AK; sister Donna Blue Joyner of Raleigh, NC; brother James Bryant “Buddy” Joyner, Jr. (Belinda), nephew Jarrad and great niece McKenna and great nephew Kolton, nephew Gregory of Wilmington, NC.
Jerry enjoyed golfing, cooking, and reading. He was always available to help others with who needed his expertise in accounting matters. Jerry was renowned for his dry wit. He could always “reel in” his audience with a great story or joke. Jerry was intensely proud of his two granddaughters and they will forever remember special birthday trips to Pullen Park to play with their Grandpa.
Family and close friends will celebrate Jerry’s life with a private memorial service.

I am saddened by the news of Jerry's passing.  I have fond memories of him from when we played football.  I believe he lived or was from Millbrook.  At the last few reunions he and I spent a few moments together recalling our football experiences.  He was just a nice guy and always willing to put out 100% effort.  I will miss him.  I always felt he was a class act.

Jerry Joyner - A Great Guy!

It is a sad moment when you lose a classmate, but when you lose a friend from your childhood it is even more sad. I played little league baseball with Jerry at Lions Park back when we were about 12 years old. Jerry was a great guy and a good friend. He will be missed.
My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
Deepest sympathy,
Rick Hamilton
