Walter Howard Murray, Jr. October 25, 1944 - November 25, 2014

Walter Howard “ Walt” Murray, Jr. age 70, died Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at the Coliseum Hosptial. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 PM with visitation at 1:00 PM at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Dublin Memorial Gardens. Rev. Paul Wilkes will officiate. He was born October 25, 1944, in Raleigh, NC to the late Walter H. Murray, Sr. and Frances Evans Murray. He was retired from TKG International in Macon after seventeen years. Prior to that he was a manager for Belk stores in Galax, VA, Sandersville, GA and Newnan, GA. During the time he was employed with Belk he was a member of various civic organizations, including the Lion’s Club and the Jay C’s. In Sandersville, he was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He graduated from Broughton High School and attended NC State in Raleigh majoring in Political Science. As a young man he was a member of the DeMolays, a fraternal organization sponsored by the Masons where he received the “Order of the Chavaliers”, the highest honor given for outstanding work in the community. He served in the military from 1966 thru 1968 where he was a specialist in the 70th Medical Depot Center Ryukyu Island, Okinawa, Japan. He was a member of and sang with the Sukuran Choral. During his younger years, he enjoyed golf, tennis and camping. Before moving to Dublin in 1997, Walt was a member of the Forest Hills United Methodist Church of Macon and president of his Sunday School Class. He leaves behind his loving wife of seventeen years, Barbara Evans Murray, a brother Frank A. Murray of Wesley Chapel, FL, an aunt, Ola Register of Fitzgerald, numerous cousins in both Fitzgerald and Wake County, NC and special cousin, Jimmy Register of Fitzgerald and “cousin in law” Carolyn Evans of Dublin.
