I just noted on Facebook and was saddened to see that Gary had died yesterday.  I remember that Gary was a quiet and dependable guy.  We had played football from Martin Jr. High and at Broughton.  He worked hard and was always upbeat.  My wife and I sat with him at the recent reunions (40, 45 and 50). He and I reminenced about our past experiences at Martin, and Broughton.  My wife and I went up to West Jefferson  last October to see him and had a picnic at a park up on one of the mountains there and had a great visit with him.  He seemed to be enjoying living there and at peace with the world and his life.  I will miss him.  RIP my friend.

What a shock!     Gary was always pleasant and fun to be around. I saw him several times after Broughton. Once over lunch with Rusty Britt and another in Charlotte last year with Ervin Bridges and Bill Hester. He was great football player. I remember when he ran sweeps and I tried to tackle him. He was really fast. I am so glad to have him as a friend and will miss him.

Gary and I both had old Chevrolets our senior year. Neither car was very dependable. There was one parking space on a hill beside the gym we each wanted. We both tried to get there first in case we neeeded to 'jump start' our car down that small hill. And, of course should the other need help we were there for each other. What fun times. Gary, old friend, you will be missed. RIP ....
