I remember Eddie from grade school up through our years at Broughton as being friendly, thoughtful, and quite an athlete. He was an amazing guy, living life to the fullest. We will miss him….Bill

I also went through all the grades with Eddie.  We met at Myrtle Underwood, where Eddie, Irvin Smith, and I were sort of an "unholy trio" that teachers enjoyed and/or dreaded.  I remember back in those safer times that we walked or rode our bikes to each other's homes, and all over the Hayes Barton neighborhood, with minimum supervsion.  Of course Eddie's home across the street from Hayes Barton pool was a primary destination all summer long - - bless his patient Mom!

We didn't share many classes at Daniels or Broughton, but it was always good to see his smiling face in the halls.  And in later years, it has been great to see him at Broughton reunions, and catch up on our lives. He indeed led a full and interesting life, and was always a good friend.  My best thoughts to his family.

This is a reminder to all of us - we should connect again at the next Reunion (2023?), because time is passing and our numbers are dwindling.

Yes to all you wrote, Ben!  Eddie was my "boyfriend" in Mrs. Stewart's second grade at Myrtle Underwood.  Her room was at the back of the gym behind the main building.  Remember you, Eddie and Irwin as a great trio!  Irwin had the blackest crewcut ever!  Always remember day after day at the HB pool a few steps from his house.

I'll vote for a 2023 reunion!!!!

Ed certainly lived his life to the fullest and has left holes in the timelines of so many people. I'll bet he is tooling around the heavens in that RV he couldn't enjoy here making friends at each turn in the golden highway.

Eddie was buried today, and he went out in style. At the grave site a jazz band played "A Closer Walk With Thee" , I'll Fly Away", and "When The Saints Go Marching In", and an Army trumpeter played "Taps". After the burial service, a celebration of life was held at Rocking Horse Horse Farm near Siler City where Eddie had spent the last 3 years enjoying his cows, goats, horses, ducks, and dogs. The celebration featured another band that played "Amazing Grace".

The ceremonies reflected Eddie's personality, serious but with a strong undercurrent of joy and inclusivity. A wonderful man received a wonderful send off. He will be missed.

I only got to know Eddie after we moved from Garner to Hayes Barton areas and attended Daniels Jr into our 9th-grade year. He and I went on to play JV and Varsity football at Broughton.

If he lived his life as full as he played football, he was something else! For U see, he must have weighed under 150 lbs but chose to play the defense position of TACKLE!

We JV-er practiced with the Varsity team as Varsity next game's team Defense.

Look it up! Alex Bell was our Varsity's Fullback,(Class of 61) and was a real headache when he came charging across the Line into our Defence. Alex's Play would later earn him a 4-year scholarship to DUKE.

So, there was Eddie trying to tackle a would-be NFL star if Alex had not gotten injured early on in his Duke career!
