After college (ECU), I taught in the Va Beach area several years. From 1972-2008 I lived in Bucks County, Pa. There I owned retail stores in Peddler's Village, Lahaska, in Doylestown, Pa and in Hoboken, NJ. In 2008 I moved to the Houston area to be near my daughter and her family. ( a super son-in-law and two grand girls). I got my real estate license and started a new career...which I love!
Moving to the Houston area was a big change after living in beautiful Bucks County for 36 years...but I live in a great neighborhood (down the street from my family), work in a wonderful office on the water and have time for lots of outdoor activities.
Houston has great museums and cultural events as well as one of the best medical systems in the world. As a gardener I love this part of the country because most plants thrive in the climate. My yard backs up to a wooded area (my neighbors call it the forest) with large trees and walking paths. This has helped the transition from Pa! I now call Katy, Tx home!
UPDATE: 2019. We, my family and I, are building a home on the smallest of the Bay Islands in the Caribbean, Utila. They are avid divers and can walk out the front door onto the beach and within a few strokes be along a coral reef. We have been vacationing there for several years and plan to move there partime when the house is completed. I am enjoying designing a smaller home for the property that will be just mine. Exciting changes again! 2023 January… Well! My “casita” is underway! It has been an interesting design and construction project. am living in my family’s house while my ( little??) casita is being built. I am going back and forth to Katy ( outside of Houston) with Gabby, my Schnauzer. ( United has presented a challenge for Gabby…she is under the weight limit, but is half an inch too tall!), In the meantime she and I are enjoying exploring this little island and watching awesome sunsets.. The coral reefs are outside our door. If you are a diver, maybe you have been here already? Utila in the Bay Islands of Honduras. I am going between Houston and here for a couple of years…and then may be here full time…but in all this beauty, I still miss the NC OuterBanks. It is heart wrenching to see the updated list of those of or class who are gone. It has made me realize we need to/have to stay in touch with those we care about. I hope to see many of you at our 60th! Mary
