Peggy, I am thinking about you and know quite a bit about this journey you are undertaking.  I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010--yes, shocking and scary.  I had a mastectomy, 4 chemo treatments, and reconstruction in 2010.  Then in 2011, at my yearly follow-up, suspicious pre-cancerous areas in the other breast led me to elect a second mastectomy as prevention.  I am doing so well now and volunteer for American Cancer Society as a phone buddy for newly diagnosed patients.  If I can help you in any way, let me know. I have a feeling there are a lot of us women in the class of 63 who have been down this road.  It was good to see you at the reunion last summer.  I will be thinking about you as you go through surgery and begin your treatment after Christmas.      Royce Williams Kimbrough

Peggy,  thank you for sharing this with all of us!   Cancer seems to be more prevalent now-a-days!  And thank you for sharing your faith not only with us but also with all the others you come in contact with. It is only our faith in Christ that can carry us thru the bad times but we also have to thank Him for our blessed times as well!  I will be praying for you in the days and weeks to come. And tnank you Royce Ann for sharing this with us as well. I had no idea you have been thru this when we saw each other at the Diva lunch in Dec. May God bless each of you. Merry Christmas to you both as well as your families. Pat. Ball McAdams

Dear Peggy,

I too, thank you for sharing this with us.  You will be in my thoughts and prayers and I know your faith will be a very strong support to you and your family.  Your reminder of a yearly mammogram is much needed to some of us and I want to also point out that men as well as women can get breast cancer.  So you good men please be attentive to any lumps or unusual changes in your breast.  May you have a blessed Christmas, good New Year and much success with your treatment.  It was so good seeing you at the reunion.   Diane Ramsey

Men of 1963 take heed !!!!!

Ladies, especially Diane, thank you for the reminder about breast cancer in men. I myself have not experienced it, but I had a friend who found lumps and had quite a scare. Fortunately, for him, it was benign.

Peggy you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Rusty .....

Thanks to all of you for your kind wishes and the prayers you are offering up for me.  I know God will turn each one of them into a blessing and I thank you ahead of time.  Royce Ann, thank you for sharing about your breast cancer.  It is a scary moment to know you have cancer and it does change the road you're on.  Everything revolves around your treatment.  I'm glad you have found a way to serve, Royce Ann, as a support person to those with cancer.  I don't know what will result out of all this but it will be good.  Thanks to everybody and hope you all have a joyous Christmas and a blessed New Year!

Merry Christmas to the class of '63. It was great seeing everyone at the reunion. 50 years have gone by so quickly. Especially at the holidays, I am so thankful for my time at Broughton, and for all of my great friends from that time.          Wishing everyone a happy and healthy 2014.

Happy 2014!  My surgery went well on Friday, December 27th, for breast cancer.  Our daughter Amy was home from Cornell University grad school in Ithaca, New York, for the week so that brought me great joy.  Since the surgery our Sunday School class and other friends have brought us many meals.  I have gotten many telephone calls, cards, and even flowers!  I feel so loved.  My husband Gray has done what I usually do in the kitchen, doing the laundry, and washing the dishes, and Andrew, our son, helps with grocery shopping.  I went back to the doctor yesterday, Friday, January 3rd, and she had the results of the pathology report:  NO CANCER IN THE LYMPH NODES!

That was a huge relief and a great answer to prayer.  The doctor said they will do a test with the tissue to rule out chemotherapy.  She said my type of cancer doesn’t respond well to chemotherapy but does better with radiation; she just has to prove it with the test.  Thanks to all of you who prayed for me; our prayers were abundantly answered.  God is good and has a reason for everything that happens to us, even though we may not know why until later down the road.  Thanks again!  Love, Peggy Poe

Peggy  that is wonderful news!  Prayers have been answered.  God Bless!

Linda Davis Wilkerson one of our classmates has pancreatic cancer  and is having surgery  this next week.  Please keep her in your prayers also.  The doctor has told her it is very operatable since it is in the lowest part of the pancreas.  She told me to tell everyone she apprecites all the prayers!

Judy Lee (Austin)

Good Morning Peggy,

It was so good to hear that your report from your doctor was good.  I read something in my devotional book this AM that I thought you might like to read.  "Instead of letting difficulties draw you into worrying, try to view them as setting the scene for My glorious intervention.  Keep your eyes and your mind wide open to all that I am doing in your life."  I thought this was something we all need to keep near us.  I am sure your faith has brought you through this diffcult time in your life.

My thoughts and prayers are with you,

Judy Lee Austin
